The Purpose

Do you have a business project but limited resources to get it done?

The Johnson School's MBA Project Initiative acquires paid, eight to ten week summer projects for MBAs who graduate in May 2009 but are still seeking fulltime employment. Projects through this initiative: help companies to complete work that they may not have internal resources to carry out; provide legitimate work experience for students while they continue to search for a permanent job; and provide a limited financial return to the students.

The MBA Project Initiative is also looking for project experiences for MBAs graduating in May 2010 who have not connected with a summer internship opportunity.

Criteria for Projects

Matching Students with Projects

The Johnson School program manager will source potential students with strong interest in, and reasonable qualifications for, the corporate project. When possible, the sponsoring company will receive several candidates from which to choose. While the program manager will work with the project sponsor in evaluating candidates, the final decision rests with the sponsoring company.

The standard rate of pay for students is $25.00 per hour for hours worked on the project. This fee can be tailored to the individual situation dependent on an agreement between sponsoring company and the student.

Contracting

The Johnson School staff will work with the sponsoring company to define a project that meets the criteria established for the program and supply names of potential student candidates. It is the responsibility of the company sponsor and individual student to agree on the specific terms of the arrangement and to document that agreement as they see fit. The Johnson School does not engage in negotiations related to pay, working hours or other conditions related to the project. Projects for MBAs finishing their first year can begin as early as mid-May 2009.

Project Supervision

It is the responsibility of the project sponsor to supervise the work of students. The Johnson School does not play a role in supervising the work of students and takes no responsibility for the quality or timeliness of project deliverables.
