The winners defeated 11 other teams by making "buy" or "sell" recommendations in front of a team of Wall Street analysts and portfolio managers from State Street Global Advisors, Fidelity Investments, UBS, Wellington Management, BlackRock and Morgan Stanley. This year's winning selection? "Buy" DR Horton (DHI), a homebuilder based in Fort Worth, TX that closed today at $22.80.

The Kellogg team of first-year MBAs included Chris Sullivan, Grant Dollens and David Moore. They recommended purchasing DR Horton and gave a one-year target of $28. "We believe it was the best value play in the market," said Moore, the student who gave the winning pitch. "It's a good time to buy. It has a lot of upside and the negatives have already been priced in."

In previous years, Stock Pitch winners have made selections that have outperformed the overall market, so it's definitely worth listening to these MBA students who traveled from all over the nation to Ithaca for this prestigious event.

The finalists included Northwestern, Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, Chicago and Rochester. The event was held in Ithaca, New York at the Parker Center for Investment Research at Cornell University. The winning team receives $3000 and $1500 goes to the second place winners.

For the first time, there was a tie for second place between Virginia's Darden School and the University of Maryland. Darden recommended a buy for Pulte Homes (PHM) and Maryland suggested shorting or selling Pulte Homes. Larry Rakers, vice president and portfolio manager for Fidelity Investments said "All the teams did a great job this year. They presented professional quality analysis similar to what I see in my firm. What set the winners apart was their solid analysis, and they pitched it convincingly."

The teams include:
Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
Columbia University
Cornell University (Johnson)
Duke University (Fuqua)
Dartmouth University (Tuck)
New York University (Stern)
Northwestern University (Kellogg)
University of Chicago
